Our Jobs

AI won’t take all jobs, but it will absorb many tasks inside most jobs. It will eliminate some roles where the remaining tasks can be fully standardized. In response, organizations will (maybe should) concentrate human responsibility at decision gates: the points where someone must approve an action because the costs of being wrong are meaningful.

This shift doesn’t imply we can know less. For many roles, it implies the opposite. If a human is accountable for the decision, they must be able to justify it under scrutiny. That requires two kinds of understanding: domain knowledge (what “correct” and “good” mean here) and system knowledge (what the AI relied on, what it assumed, how uncertain it is, and how it typically fails). You don’t need access to the AI’s private inner thoughts. You need a usable reasoning trace and evidence trail—inputs, sources, constraints, confidence signals, and tests—so you can decide when to trust, when to verify, and when to override.

Keep teaching. Keep learning.
