Our intuitive way of understanding the world just happens to be different from the way the world appears when we apply our science-forming capacities to it. We can only talk about different aspects of the world.
Even with very little knowledge about the properties that allow for “thinking matter”, the only thing we are ultimately confident about is our own immediate experience. And the rest of inquiry, including all of science, is an effort to give some coherent account of what this experience is. A self-correcting story.
We move from trying to understand the world to understanding our theories about the world. An evolution of scientific intelligibility. But this doesn’t mean the world is going to be intelligible to us. Why would it be? Why should monkey poets have direct introspection into the “Mama Matrix Most Mysterious”?
The best we can do is to map mental entities to things in the world.
